ROMA (ITALPRESS) – For the implementation of the SIM project, the new national technological infrastructure for environmental safety, the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security has signed a collaboration agreement with Infratel Italia SpA, a company controlled by Invitalia, as head of specialist-operative support. The Integrated Monitoring System, presented on 11 and 12 February in Rome, is a strategic intervention of the PNRR managed by MASE, with technological partners Leonardo and DXC.
The SIM provides Italy with a new advanced tool for hydrogeological safety, spatial planning and adaptation to climate change. Through the integration of data, knowledge and skills, SIM will be able to guide public policies towards prevention, intervening in key areas such as contrast to hydrogeological dissect, emergency support, monitoring of marine and coastal pollution, fighting environmental illicits, fires, precision agriculture.
The programme provides funding for approximately EUR 260 million for the implementation of 5221 interventions across the national territory, to protect local communities from environmental threats. The investment is divided into the expansion of specialized networks with a breakdown that sees approximately 54,5 million euros destined for the Idrometeo network (the largest with 4.129 sites), over 53,8 million for the Radar network (30 sites) and 35,6 million for the monitoring of the landslides (183 sites). Other significant interventions concern the seismic network (26.3 million for 356 sites) and advanced technological equipment, such as marine and drone sensors, worth approximately 23.3 million. This financial and technical effort will allow unprecedented coverage for the public authorities involved.
Infratel will focus in particular on the verification, design, management of works and coordination of the security of the technological infrastructure developed for civil protection and prevention of environmental threats, providing the excellent skills gained in the development of large infrastructure projects of telecommunications.
“With this project, we provide our technical expertise to serve an industrial challenge for citizens’ safety. Our task is to transform the ambitious PNRR investment into an operational reality, ensuring that each yard and every sensor are installed in the expected time. Our goal is to provide the country with efficient infrastructure, capable of providing real-time data to protect the natural heritage and local communities,” said Infratel CEO Pietro Piccinetti.
