ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “In the fourth anniversary of the further Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, we, leader of the G7, reaffirm our unwavering support to Ukraine in the defense of its territorial integrity and its right to existence, as well as its freedom, sovereignty and independence. We express our continued support for President Trump’s efforts to achieve these goals by starting a peace process and leading the parties to direct talks. Europe has a leading role to play in this process, along with other partners. We also support the commitments made within the Pleasant Coalition to provide solid and reliable security guarantees to Ukraine. We recognize that only Ukraine and Russia, working together in good faith negotiations, can reach a peace agreement.” Thus in a joint note the leaders of the G7 countries.
“We welcome the efforts made by members of the G7 and other partners to provide substantial financial support and in nature to Ukraine, helping the country to overcome this winter – the statement continues. Over the past few weeks, significant additional power production capabilities have been mobilised, along with other essential equipment, including the shipment of over 2500 generators and other essential equipment such as transformers, turbines, cogeneration units, boilers and repair equipment from the G7 countries in Kiev since January, and over half a billion euros of new commitments to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund for the purchase of energy and repair of equipment. A resilient and robust energy system will be necessary in view of the next winter and for the recovery of the country”.
“We work closely to ensure nuclear safety, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Ukraine, to promote fundraising for rehabilitation as soon as possible of the Chernobyl containment arc and to prevent any radiological incident that would have serious humanitarian and environmental consequences for the entire continent. We also support initiatives aimed at guaranteeing the immediate, safe and unconditional return of Ukrainian children to their families and communities, and we appreciate the work of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children – the G7 leaders conclude. We will continue to provide humanitarian aid and support for the Ukrainian population.”.
