ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Flavio Cobolli is the champion of the “Abierto Mexicano Telcel”, ATP 500 with a prize pool of 2.469,450 dollars that ended on the cement of the Arena GNP in Acapulco, Mexico.
At the Italian dawn the 23-year-old Roman, n.20 of the ranking and fifth favorite of seeding, beat for 7-6(4), 6-4, in two hours and 9 minutes of match, the American Frances Tiafoe, n.28 of the ranking and 8 of the seeding (who in the quarters had stopped the race of Mattia Bellucci, n.110 ATP).
For Cobolli is the third career title after those won last year at the “250” of Budapest (battendo Baez) and the “500” of Hamburg (superando Rublev) on four finals played (it lost that of the “500” of Washington in 2024 against Korda). Thanks to this victory Monday Flavio will go up to n.15 by signing the “best ranking”.
“As a child I dreamed this moment – said Cobolli during the award –. This kind of tournament, play in the middle field with the audience cheering for me. I am very proud, not only for me, but also for people who work for me: my father, my family, the rest of my team. They helped me a lot. I think I deserve it for how I work outside the field. After the defeats, I train back in the field and I just want to say that I am very proud of myself. It was a big game today, I think it was the best tournament for me. I’ve never won against Frances before, so I’m really happy.”.
The Roman is the fourth tennis player born in the 2000s to win ATP titles on multiple surfaces, along with Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Arthur Fils.
