Iran, Tajani at the House: “We helped 10 thousand Italians to leave the areas at risk” / Video

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “We are not only here for a formal act, we are here for a precise political choice, involve Parliament in all the steps and strategic decisions that this crisis imposes on us. The gravity of the situation requires all of us, government and parliament, a shared responsibility.” This was said by Vice-Premier and Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, in the course of communications, in the Chamber, on the request for aid from the Gulf countries. “On foreign policy, the defence of citizens and the productive fabric and security,” added Tajani, “a great democracy must be able not to divide”.

“In recent hours the situation has led to further development, not positive, Iran continues to launch indiscriminate attacks with missiles and drones to strategic structures, military sites, hotels, diplomatic missions in all the Gulf countries, and this morning also against Azerbaijan. The defenses of the Gulf countries are constantly engaged in intercepting missiles launched by the Islamic republic,” added Tajani.

“In these hours the situation is constantly evolving with a risk of enlargement of the conflict, on what happened in Cyprus, I remember that it is a Community country to which it is necessary to guarantee solidarity and assistance”, he said.

“It is also difficult for the situation in Iraq, where we are monitoring, minute by minute, developments in the situation, also given the presence of Italian soldiers. Another open front is the Lebanese one,” added Tajani.

“The government is working without pause to assist all the countrymen in the region, their security is security priority. The Gulf task force has managed to date more than 14 thousand calls, and several thousand email contacts. The Italians we have already helped to leave the areas at risk arrived at about 10 thousand,” said Tajani. “We have facilitated various charter flights in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense, this morning they landed two in Ciampino, with 200 Italians under conditions of fragility, in the coming days are previewed additional flights, from the countries of the Gulf also with the collaboration of the airlines Ita and Neos,” he said. “There are over 100 thousand Italians involved in the most affected areas, I thank all the staff who are helping those who are in trouble, without pause,” he added.

“The government is ready to intervene also on the economic front to mitigate the impact of this crisis which unfortunately is already visible, worries the blockade of the Strait of Ormuz”. This was said by Vice-Premier and Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, in the course of communications, in the Chamber, on the request for aid from the Gulf countries. “The prices of gas and oil have already recorded significant increases,” said Tajani. “If grain prices increase, new crises and instability fronts can be sharpened in countries with economic problems.”.

“I repeat that Italy is not at war with anyone and will not be at war with anyone, we speak with everyone without ever giving up our values,” he concluded.

“We had in the area, before the conflict broke out, 2.576 people, we started, before the conflict began, shifts to secure the military, and in recent days we took other measures to adapt our presence to the missions.” This was said by the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, during communications, in the Chamber, on the request for aid from the Gulf countries. “As I speak to you, there is a movement of 239 military personnel towards Saudi Arabia, to lighten the device, while maintaining an essential operational capacity,” added Crosetto “will remain 82 of the 321 military, a similar speech in Qatar, in Bahrain. In Lebanon, in the light of the latest developments, we are carefully evaluating the situation and are ready to cope with every need, both by renouncing the staff, and by intervening with a naval device”.

“The strategy of Iran is to create chaos, economic difficulties, the Strait of Ormuz has a relevance, from an economic point of view, to the whole world, the concern is that these attacks have hit NATO bases, like Cyprus. The biggest concern is that in this crisis others can be fed” added Crosetto ” those in progress on the east front”.

“It is a very difficult time, we must have all the awareness, we must re-evaluate our assets in the region, with some objectives starting from the protection of our missions and respond to the demands of the countries in difficulty, the tool with which we can respond by helping the countries friends in difficulty is that outlined by Parliament: the current international mission package.”.
