ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Prevention is today our most effective weapon to win cancer and must become a daily habit for all citizens.” This was reiterated by the President of LILT Nazionale, Francesco Schittulli, during the press conference of presentation of the National Week for the Oncological Prevention (SNPO), promoted by the Italian League for the Fight against Tumori and hosted today at the Press Office of the Chamber of Deputies. Established with the Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers and arrived this year at its 25th edition, the SNPO represents one of the most important events in the field of prevention in Italy, with the aim of spreading the importance of correct lifestyles and raising awareness on the importance of early diagnosis. The meeting, moderated by journalist Giuseppe Brindisi, took place the deputies Maria Stefania Marino and Roberto Pella, and the Head of the Department of Prevention Maria Rosaria Campitiello. Also present are David Granieri, President Unaprol and National Vice-President Coldiretti, Elisabetta Gregoraci, Ambassador LILT, and Beppe Convertini, testimonial Blue ribbon LILT. “The National Week of Oncological Prevention strongly reminds us that prevention is not an option: it is the most effective drug to live better and longer – said Campitiello -. This year, for the first time, the Budget Law gave a concrete answer, significantly increasing funds for oncological prevention. Thanks to these resources we can strengthen screening programs, make services on the territory more capillary and ensure faster and more effective gripping paths. But we know that resources alone are not enough.” For this reason, he added, “here comes communication, which becomes the light capable of guiding citizens towards prevention. Informing, raising awareness and actively engaging communities means opening the doors of screening, breaking down barriers and inequalities and transforming knowledge into concrete action, especially in the most fragile areas of the country. Oncological prevention is a commitment that concerns everyone. Only by working together institutions, health professionals and citizens can build a healthier, fair and aware society, where health is not a privilege, but a right of all.” “Prevention is the most effective weapon we have today to win cancer – said Schittulli –. Spreading the culture of prevention means empowering the person to take correct behavior every day. The SNPO is a fundamental moment to remember that well-being is born of conscious choices: healthy nutrition, physical activity, periodic controls, fight against smoking and attention to environmental risk factors. Investing in prevention today means investing in health and saving life.” During the conference it was reiterated that the adoption of correct lifestyles could reduce the risk of developing oncological pathologies by up to 40%. A central role is played by the Mediterranean Diet, recognized as a UNESCO heritage, along with the Italian Cuisine, as a virtuous model in the relationship between nutrition and health. Also for this edition, 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil is a symbol of the LILT campaign: a fundamental food, rich in polyphenols and oleic acid, which – according to consolidated scientific evidence – can help reduce the risk of cancer by 31%. “The challenge is cultural before health – Schittulli concluded. We must make prevention an integral part of everyday life, starting from what we bring to the table until we take care of our body with periodical clinical and instrumental controls.” The SNPO 2026 campaign has been sponsored by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities), Sport and Health and Coni. The c claimnational ampagna 2026 is: “PrevenziONe. The right choice is always to keep it on.” An invitation to take care of yourself every day through small gestures: eating healthy, regular physical activity and periodic controls. Testimonial 2026 are the nutritionist Giorgio Calabrese, swimmer Luca Dotto and food blogger Francesca Gambacorta.
