Mercedes-Benz reinvents vans with VAN.EA prototypes

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Mercedes Benz Vans is advancing the next phase of its electrification strategy with VAN.EA: starting in 2026, all newly developed medium- and large-sized vans from Mercedes Benz will be based on the modular, flexible and scalable VAN.EA (Mercedes Benz Van Electric Architecture). The first prototypes are already on public roads-a milestone on the road to reinventing the van. The VAN.EA platform enables a clear differentiation between private-use vans in the luxury segment and commercial vans in the premium segment. As for private-use vans, the portfolio will range from family vehicles to exclusive VIP shuttles to luxurious vehicles for customers with higher demands. In terms of available technologies, the new vans will meet a wide variety of customer needs. Regardless of whether they are front-wheel drive or 4X4, all vehicles will be equipped with the latest version of the Mercedes Benz operating system (MB.OS), as well as an 800-volt charging system and a 22 kW AC charger. After a long-distance journey from Stuttgart to the North Cape in early June 2024 with a purpose-built vehicle to test the chassis, electric powertrain, battery, and high-voltage components, current testing focuses on the interaction of all components in the overall vehicle. The next key step will be testing in the harsh temperatures of Sweden.
