ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The reasons for American and Israeli military action against Iran are at the heart of the debates of European observers. The questions are legitimate. Democracies do not choose light-heart war option and Israel is no exception. The only deterrence was no longer enough to contain the Iranian threat on Israel.” This is what Jonathan Peled, ambassador of Israel in Italy, has chosen the newspaper La Ragione to explain to Italian citizens and media the reasons for military intervention in Iran. “at least two” are the “fundamental reasons”, according to Peled. “The first is the nature of the Iranian regime and its nuclear and missile capabilities – it highlights. Atomic bomb, missiles and terror: this combination is a systemic threat.” The second reason, Peled points out, “concerns the purposes of the military operation. Here we need clarity. It is not a “regime change” in the traditional sense, imposed from the outside or dropped from the top: Israel does not intend to decide the political future of Iran. The exact objectives of the operation in Iran are fear, violence and repression, the mechanisms through which the regime has maintained control. The strategists were neutralized, including Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Guide, Ali Larijani, the key figure of the architecture of power, and the commander of militia Basij, Gholamreza Soleimani, in charge of the paramilitary apparatus for the repression of popular protests.”.
“The surgical elimination of the repressive heart of the regime – the eleven thousand its structures of command, the coercive apparatuses and suffocation of dissent – wants to create conditions because the courageous Iranian civil society, which continues to find death in the square in claiming freedom and dignity, has the concrete possibility to take in hand its own destiny, free from the yoke of terror, torture and arbitrary arrests.
