GAYDON (INGHILTERRA) (ITALPRESS) – Jaguar engineers rediscovered the concept of greatness before starting to work on the brand’s re-imagined future. To understand the dynamic essence of a true Jaguar, the development path started through the guidance of iconic models of the past. Only then was it possible to translate this feeling into the luxurious four-door GT. The new Jaguar embodies two characters in one car: an immersive guide with great capacity in terms of power, along with sophistication and composure. This duality also defines the innate DNA present in models such as the Jaguar E-type, the XJS and the XJ series – some of the cars guided by the team in May 2023. “At first we did something out of the ordinary: we spent some time flying the big models of our past – to get into the deep essence of what makes a Jaguar really such. Jaguar, at its best, has always shown two personalities, characterized by performance and comfort in perfect harmony, and our new luxury GT is no exception. “It embodies everything the brand exists for. Jaguar’s founder, Sir William Lyons, used to say that ‘guide should be a pleasure, not an oblivion’ said Matt Becker, Vehicle Engineering Director of JLR. The experience “Spirit of Jaguar Drive” has confirmed the brand’s distinctive driving attributes, i.e. great performance skills, refinement and composure. These elements are fundamental for the new four-door Jaguar GT, along with a long bonnet and a lowered roof that create a clear visual link with the great models of the past, while at the same time challenging the aesthetic canons of electric vehicles. Jaguar engineers led the XK120, E-type, XJ Coupè V12, XJS and XJ Series I. Each offered a visceral demonstration of the brand’s origin and what would make the new luxury GT a real Jaguar. The XK120, with its road layout, has shown that the new GT has to offer an enveloping cabin that tightens around the driver. It must also exceed the current performance level in its category. The E-type remains an exceptional representation of what Jaguar represents. Comfortable and relaxing, but at the same time fast with accessible performance, has shown that on board a Jaguar you never get unnoticed. Above all, the driving dynamics of the four-door GT are inspired more than anything else by the XJ Coupè, with its fusion of performance and comfort. The V12 is always a power reserve, while the frame wraps like a luxury sedan. Designed to travel long distances at sustained speed, the XJS left today’s engineers with a feeling of pleasure and energy. This results in the ability of the new GT to address the curves accurately and to be able to travel anywhere in total safety. The XJ Series I, Auto of the Year in 1968, is another timeless Jaguar. It embodies the fundamental characteristics of the Jaguars of the future, ie a great power combined with an exceptional refinement. To faithfully capture the spirit of Jaguar, engineers submitted the new GT to a challenging real and virtual development program. The tests, in extreme conditions and environments around the world, and in the digital realm, allowed Jaguar to refine its distinctive driving character and develop a suite of propulsion technologies developed in-house that allows the new four-door GT to be guided like no other electric car. Intelligent torque management and tri-motor technology ensure over 1,000 CVs and more than 1,300 Nm torque. Thanks to an integrated software that responds in just a millisecond, the power is distributed where and when it serves for an engaging and fulfilling guide. Dynamic pneumatic suspension works insynergy with active double valve shock absorbers to refine driving comfort. Composure is never compromised. “From the beginning, our goal was to create a real Jaguar. To do this, we wanted to re-examine the brand’s roots and the best way to succeed was to drive some of our most extraordinary models of the last 90 years. This has provided a clear direction to help us create the most technologically advanced Jaguar ever,” said Rawdon Glover, Jaguar Managing Director. The four-door GT will be unveiled in September this year. Its modernist and exuberant design, pioneering technology and instinctive driving dynamics will form the foundations of all future Jaguar models.
