MILAN (ITALPRESS) – An experience of participation, personal growth and civic commitment to the benefit of young generations and territorial communities. In the headquarters of the Municipality of Rozzano, in Milanese, an event promoted by the Ministry for Sport and Youth on the occasion of the 25-year celebrations of the Civil Service and dedicated to the valorization and dissemination of the Universal Civil Service, established in 2017 to make the experience accessible to a greater number of young people. A meeting open to citizenship, attended by the bodies of the Universal Civil Service, the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, the undersecretary of the Lombardy Region with delegation to Sport and Youth, Federica Picchi, and the mayor of Rozzano, Mattia Ferretti.
“In these twenty-five years, the Civil Service has written an extraordinary page of commitment, solidarity, active participation – said Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, in a message read by Minister Abodi during the event – . In these years, we have banned more than 250 thousand places and guaranteed the Civil Service the most important financial investment ever, with more than 1.5 billion made available in the three years 2026-2028. In addition, we have recognized the value of the Civil Service in public competitions with a 15% reserve for those who completed the year of service and invested in the certification of skills, so that this experience can also be an opportunity for the professional future of young people”. The premier then turned to young generations with an appeal: “The history of the Civil Service is a story that feeds on the future, because it is an experience that can change life and mark the way of those who do it. That’s why I want to take this opportunity to appeal to all Italian children from 18 to 28 years old: do not be afraid to run, to risk, to take this opportunity.” “The 2026 call is still open – Meloni recalled – . Choose the project you like most and ask questions: you will discover a new reality, and you will have the opportunity to put your talent and enthusiasm at the service of all. And Italy, I assure you, will know Thank you. Betting on yourself, bet on Italy. And you will not regret it.”.
“To celebrate such an important appointment, the best thing is to take future commitments, trying to give a sense to this precious tool of sociality that gave answers to the territories involving 800 thousand young people – Minister Abodi intervened – . The questions in these years have been 2 million: it means that we have succeeded, even more in these three and a half years, to give an always current sense, always useful to the common good. We talk about a unique tool in its kind in the world in the dimension in which we managed to develop it. It is a question of financial resources, vision, design, certification.”.
“According to the most recent government data, almost one in three young people find work also thanks to the experience of the Civil Service, while more than 60% is occupied at a distance of 1-2 years – recalled the regional undersecretary Picchi – . Data confirming how this experience represents a true bridge between training and work. Statistical surveys also indicate how the Civil Service, in addition to employability, improves skills, such as soft skills. The Universal Civil Service is not, therefore, only a formative experience, but a strategic investment in the human and social capital of the new generations. For this reason, Regione Lombardia, through the Department of Social Policy and Family, led by Elena Lucchini, strengthened this instrument with the Leva Civica lombarda, funding 6 million euros.” Picchi then underlined how the celebration of the anniversary of the Civil Service in Rozzano is particularly significant for the call for participation that is aimed at young people because “it is the area of the Lombardy Region with the greatest rate of Neet”, the young people between 15 and 29 years who do not study, do not work and do not train. “It’s twice the regional average.” This means that “we have an even greater challenge, that the territory is collecting very well. We know that, thanks to the government, we will make further investments in the territory. Some of these are related to sports, some to training, others are transversal, as in the case of the Civil Service,” explained the undersecretary. The day of celebrations ended with the inauguration of an artistic work realized as a permanent sign of valorisation of civic commitment and youth participation.
