Chivu defends Inter “Certi drammi solo per noi, Bastoni put his face on it”

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – After the stop for nationals, Inter prepares for the challenge against Rome, scheduled tomorrow evening in San Siro. At the press conference, the Nerazzurri coach Cristian Chivu made his point on the condition of the team, focusing on the mental aspect and the compactness of the group in view of the decisive final season. “This challenge comes after two weeks of rest, who stayed here also rested, then there were others who went to National. They are back and they know that we expect a challenging season finale.”

The coach wanted to emphasize the character solidity of his players: “The mental condition of the blues? I work with great samples from the human point of view because they have always been able to rise up, reacting. What matters is reaction and character. I’m not worried. They’re men. Disappointments are part of the game.”

Chivu then expanded his speech to the championship, reitering the confidence in the team’s path: “The championship is a marathon. We have a good rhythm. Of course we wanted more, as long as we were first in the standings means we managed to keep expectations. Every player for us is indispensable, Lautaro and all the others, even those who played less.”

On the opponent, the Nerazzurri coach highlighted the difficulties of the challenge against a team with a precise tactical identity: “We all know the strength of Rome and Gasperini that has transmitted its identity. We know this is an important game, we must be ready to find conviction and intensity. We must have courage, ambition and personality to bring home a complicated race.”

Among the themes covered also the situation of Sticks: “What matters is the respect of the comrades and the work and what you are humanly. Bastoni put his face, he showed up in the field with what he had available to represent a country. Despite the physical conditions he gave the availability to play. And that’s worth a sportsman. If he leaves Italy? I know he’s very happy at Inter and be part of this wonderful group. He always gave 100%, I care about that. Each of us is responsible for the decisions it makes. I would be happy if he stayed but I would be happy to stay too – he added. The uncertainties in the world of football, for a coach, are these”.

Also disappointed: “I asked Pio for the penalty. If he asked him to beat. He told me yes, that’s enough for me: he had the courage to put his face – Chivu concluded. Of rigori it will be wrong others but it is a good sign for Pio and for Italy that has taken this responsibility”.
