Autonomy, Calderoli starts negotiations with regions “Working together”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – A meeting was held today to launch negotiations between the government and the regions of Lombardy, Veneto, Piedmont and Liguria for the granting of additional forms and conditions of autonomy, as provided for by Law 86/2024. Presiding over the proceedings was Minister for Regional Affairs and Autonomies Roberto Calderoli. “Today is an important day,” said the minister, “not only for the four regions that have chosen to lead the way in implementing autonomy, but for the whole country. Autonomy is a challenge of responsibility, transparency and good administration that does not divide anything but, on the contrary, is an opportunity to mend an Italy already divided not only between north and south, but between inland areas and urban centers, between mountainous areas and islands. We are working to reduce the gaps and guarantee services to citizens, while respecting the Constitution. “Today,” Calderoli continued, “we agreed on the working methods to proceed jointly along the path, in light of the different requests that have been received (ed. note, Veneto has asked for functions related to 9 matters, Lombardy 8, Liguria and Piedmont 6). The unanimous decision was to start with those functions related to Civil Defense, a subject requested by all 4 regions. The regions’ requests, which do not cover entire subjects but only functions, will then be made public. Thus we will realize that it is a common sense operation to give to the Regions what they can do better than the State, leaving instead to the State what is right, in the interest of citizens, families, businesses and the whole country. This will be the first historic implementation of autonomy and the Government intends to be at the side of the Regions in this path, of course the 4 that have decided to start negotiations but with the hope that others can undertake them as well. It is not a reform against anyone but for the benefit of all,” he concludes.
