ISTANBUL (TURKEY) (ITALPRESS) – The Israeli consulate of Istanbul was the subject of an armed attack. The Turkish Karar website reports it. According to the first details provided by the Turkish police, a police officer was injured while three attackers were killed.
Turkish Justice Minister, Akin Gurlek, announced the opening of an investigation into the shooting near the Isrelian consulate in Istanbul. “With regard to reports of gunshots near the Israeli consulate in the Besiktas district in Istanbul, the Istanbul Attorney General immediately started an investigation,” said the minister according to the Karar website. “A Deputy Chief Prosecutor and two prosecutors were in charge of investigations; our prosecutors immediately went to the place,” he added. “In order to shed light on all aspects of the episode, the work continues under the coordination of the General Prosecutor, along with the forces of the competent order,” he concluded.

One of the individuals, who arrived in Istanbul from Izmit on board a rental vehicle, has ties with an organization that exploits religion; and that one of the two terrorists among their brothers has criminal records related to drug trafficking.” The Minister of the Interior of Turkey, Mustafa Ciftci, said this about the shooting occurred near the Israeli consulate in Istanbul. “Three individuals who have clashed with our police officers in service in front of Yapi Kredi Plaza buildings in Istanbul have been neutralized. Two of our heroic police officers were slightly injured in the confrontation,” the minister said.

The governor of the Turkish city, Davut Gul, commented on the shooting at the consular headquarters. “In this area there are the Yapi Kredi Bank and other commercial activities. Behind there is the consulate, but it has been inactive for two and a half years. No staff member lives within it,” said Gul.
