Meloni and EU-Canada leaders “We welcome ceasefire, now negotiate a rapid end of war”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “We welcome the ceasefire of two weeks between the United States and Iran today. We thank Pakistan and all the partners involved for facilitating this important agreement. The goal now must be to negotiate a rapid and lasting end of the war in the coming days. This can only be achieved through diplomatic means.” Thus, in a joint statement, French President Macron, Italian Prime Minister Meloni, German Chancellor Merz, English Premier Starmer, Canadian Premier Carney, Danish Premier Frederiksen, Dutch Prime Minister Jetten, Spanish Prime Minister Sánchez, European Commission President von der Leyen and European Council President Costa.

“We strongly encourage rapid progress towards a substantial negotiated solution. This will be fundamental to protect the Iranian civilian population and ensure security in the region. It can prevent a serious global energy crisis. We support these diplomatic efforts. To this end, we are in close contact with the United States and other partners. We urge all parties to implement the ceasefire, even in Lebanon. Our governments will help ensure freedom of navigation in the Hormuz Strait. This statement is open to other partners,” concludes leaders.
