A special stamp to celebrate the centenary of the Maserati Trident

MODENA (ITALPRESS) – In Rome was held the ceremony of presentation and cancellation of nine ordinary stamps, belonging to the thematic series “the Excellences of the productive and economic system” and dedicated to as many Italian secular brands. Among these is the Brand Maserati that this year celebrates the first hundred years of its iconic logo, the Trident, and at the same time its first victory in a sports competition: the legendary Targa Florio. In addition, this year Maserati cut the milestone of 112 years from the foundation, a primacy that makes it the longest brand of the Italian Motor Valley. Hosted at the Sala degli Arazzi in Palazzo Piacentini, the seat of the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, the event took place in the presence of the Head of Cabinet, Federico Eichberg, the Undersecretary of State with delegation to Filatelia, Fausta Bergamotto, delegations representing the brands involved and the COO of Maserati and CEO of Alfa Romeo, Santo Ficili. “ This special stamp celebrates not only the centenary of the Trident, but the beginning of an extraordinary Italian history, in which the innovation born on track has turned into excellence on the roads of the whole world – said Santo Ficili, COO of Maserati and CEO of Alfa Romeo -. Even today Maserati’s creations continue to be a global benchmark, thanks to distinctive design, cutting-edge technology and authentic exclusivity. For this historic milestone, I would like to thank the women and men of Maserati, our dealer network, our customers and all stakeholders who contribute every day to the growth of the brand in over 70 international markets. Together we look to the future with renewed confidence and with the same Italian pride that for over a hundred years has characterized us”. “The stamp dedicated to the Trident – reads in a note – is a refined work of miniature art, whose graphic design was created by the Maserati Style Center and optimized by the Filatelic Center of the Offline Carte Valori and Traditional Productions of the Political Institute and Zecca of the State. In detail, the vineyard reproduces in the foreground the current Tridente, which, with its contemporary design, embodies the elegance and the Maserati style, exalting the logo placed at the bottom. In the background, a refined pattern of the first Tridents of 1926 intertwines on a blue base, recalling the history and evolution of the symbol in one hundred years since its appearance. To embellish the composition, a tricolor strip that proudly evokes the Italian origin of the brand. Complete the stamp the legend “CENTENARIO”. Printed by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, the new postal value is marketed by Poste Italiane and is intended for daily use and the diffusion of philthelic, contributing to the international promotion of the production and technological excellence of the country. In addition, for philanthropic collectors and Maserati enthusiasts, there is also an exclusive philatelic folder, distributed by Poste Italiane, which includes the single stamp and the quartina, the envelope “First day of issue” with its cancellation and a valuable brochure that traces the story of the Trident”. It was 1926 when Maserati Type 26, the first car in history to bring the identification symbol to the hood, participated in the Targa Florio, winning in its category with Alfieri Maserati driving. To compete with the famous “cursa”, Maserati needed to place a logo on his car. Mario Maserati, one of the brothers and great art enthusiast, took inspiration from the Neptune Fountain, a monumental work placed in the homonymous square in Bologna, the birthplace of the “Anonymous Society of workshops Alfieri Maserati” founded in 1914 by Alfieri Maserati, together with the brothers Ettore and Ernesto. Made by the architect Tommaso Laureti and the Flemish sculptor Jean de Boulogne, better known as Giambologna, the Fountain of Neptune represents, through the celebratory allegory “as the god Neptune dominates the waters, so the Pope dominates the world”, the good government of Pope Pius IV, considered one of the greatest Pontiffs of the Renaissance as it brought to conclusion the difficult Council of Trent, laying the foundations of the reform of the Church. Thus in 1926 the Trident in the hands of the abyss god, emblem of strength and power, became the symbol of the Maserati racing cars, to seal a long series of international sports successes, including two consecutive editions of the 500 Miglia of Indianapolis (1939 and 1940), four consecutive victories at the Targa Florio (1937, 1938, 1939 and 1940), nine victories in F1 and the World Championship of F1 in 1957. In more recent years Maserati returned to triumph with the MC12, a car that from 2005 to 2010 won six FIA GT international championships, the highest expression of the competitions for granturismo cars derived from production. And since 2023 the Maserati GT2 has brought the Trident House to compete and win in the covered wheeled championships; today it is eligible to participate in more than 20 championships worldwide.
