And it is even more urgent to do so today, at a time in which they emerge among the youngest unpublished fragility, often marked by loneliness, disorientation, difficulty building authentic relationships and discerning the real from the virtual. Real relationships leave too often the step to virtual ones. We tend more and more to prefer the speed and comfort of the smartphone to the slowness and fatigue of a physical encounter. This new ‘normality’ has uninhabited us in listening, in relation, in comparison. It is an awareness that imposes an assumption of responsibility, which falls first of all on the shoulders of those who should have greater ‘instruments’ and ‘antibodies’ to defend themselves against those insidious. I mean, we adults. And I speak of ‘we’ because, as a mother and as president of the Council, I feel the first to be called into question. The first to understand that the adult world is not doing enough to protect children and children.” Thus premier Giorgia Meloni, in a message sent on the occasion of the second National Day of the Listening of the Minors.
“The first – he explains – is to be aware that it takes a step forward, to give young generations those answers they try to find in the dependence on social media, digital, technology. Because social media, digital, technology is no problem in itself. These are symptoms of much wider problems, which we cannot understand or that we probably do not want to look at. Technological tools – adds – amplify existing fragility, create new ones and extremize them. This is why the government is working to identify the most effective mechanisms to intervene. The aim is not to introduce easily bypassable prohibitions, but to offer protection and safety alternatives and to create, as much as possible, safe and protected digital ecosystems. There are different options to the study, and the Government will treasure the proposals and suggestions that will emerge even today. Because our purpose is to build a society more attentive to the needs of children and children, and initiatives like this are very useful to identify the best solutions,” Meloni concludes.
