Italian Research Day: the scientific heart of STB Days 2026 in Boston

Boston is the protagonist of the transatlantic dialogue on innovation and development with Science, Technology and Business Days 2026, the initiative organized by the General Consulate of Italy that from 14 to 16 April brings together academics, scientists, enterprises and institutions. In this context, the Italian Research Day in the World, Italian Research Day, on April 15th is a central moment of the entire event, embodying the pillar dedicated to research and offering an advanced vision of the major global scientific challenges.

The Italian Research Day in Boston is divided into five consecutive sessions dedicated to as many key areas: Materials & New Manufacturing, Environment & Energy, AI/Data Science, Life Sciences and Space. A path that reflects the priorities of contemporary research and aims to enhance Italian and Italian-American excellence in the context of New England.

To open the work, at 3:30 pm, the introduction of the Consul General of Italy in Boston, Arnaldo Minuti, and the Councillor for Science and Technology Paolo Gaudenzi, who reaffirm the significance of the Day and the strategic value of international scientific cooperation.

The first session, Materials & New Manufacturing (15:40–16:20), lights the spotlight on the new frontiers of advanced manufacturing. Among the protagonists, Admir Masic of MIT and Bianca Maria Colosimo of Politecnico di Milano, engaged in the exploration of innovative materials and additive technologies, fundamental levers for industrial transformation.

To follow, the Environment & Energy session (16:20–17:00) addresses the challenges of energy transition and climate change, with the interventions of Raffaele Ferrari and Emilio Baglietto of MIT, presenting advanced perspectives in environmental sciences and nuclear engineering.

After a break networking (17:00–17:30), the program continues with AI / Data Science (17:30–18:10), a crucial area for global competitiveness. Roberto Baldoni, Senior Advisor of the Italian Embassy in the United States, and Giovanni Parmigiani of Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health deepens the role of data, artificial intelligence and technological security in new digital scenarios.

The Life Sciences session (18:10–18:50) closes the cycle of scientific interventions, with contributions from Christopher Di Giovanni and Imma De Vivo of Harvard Medical School, focusing on medical and biostatistic innovations, with direct impacts on public health and personalized medicine.

The distinctive feature of the Italian Research Day is its ability to promote interdisciplinary dialogue and create concrete connections between research and application. In an ecosystem like Boston, one of the most advanced in the world, the day is a unique opportunity to consolidate synergies between Italy and the United States.

The day will end with a shared reflection on the future of research and its transfer to society, followed by a networking dinner in Italian style, a key moment to foster new collaborations.

More than just a scientific showcase, Research Day confirms itself as a laboratory of ideas and design, capable of combining academic excellence, technological innovation and concrete impact on the global future.
