NEW YORK (USA) (ITALPRESS) – On Wednesday evening, at the headquarters of the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), Trentino presented itself to American investors. Not a simple territorial showcase, but the concrete demonstration of an integrated model capable of combining scientific research, industrial development and quality of life. Promoted by Trentino Sviluppo, the meeting offered a strategic reading of the innovation ecosystem of the Autonomous Province, with a particular focus on Life Sciences, one of the most advanced and competitive sectors globally.
To open and lead the evening was the journalist Francesca Forcella, who immediately gave the microphone to the institutional interventions of the Consul General of Italy in New York, Giuseppe Pastorelli, the Director for North America of ITA – Italian Trade Agency, Erica Di Giovancarlo, and the Vice President and Councillor for Economic Development of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Achille Spinelli.
“When we promote a territory in the United States we try to do so with a holistic approach, talking not only of the strengths in the economic and scientific field, of all the qualities of the territory,” explained Pastorelli.
“As Italian Trade Agency we are very active all year round with promotion activities of the products of Italian companies, but also we look for investors, so we try to attract investors in Italy – explained Di Giovancarlo -. Our Italy has so many resources, there are so many possibilities of investment and collaboration with the United States can be really very profitable.”.
“We invest so much, much in relation to GDP in research and development. We have about 5,000 workers and research workers who daily engage in the territory. We have the opportunity to present an ecosystem that creates value and sharing,” said Spinelli.
The heart of the presentation was entrusted to Laura Pedron, head of the Department of Economic Development of the province of Trento, who defined Trentino as a real “innovation valley” in the heart of Europe. A territory that, thanks to its special autonomy, has built an efficient, dynamic and highly attractive system for enterprises and talents. A model based on knowledge, on high levels of investment in research and development and on a sustainable vision that is also reflected in projects such as Trentino Data Mine, strategic infrastructure for data centers with low environmental impact.
To follow, Nicola Polito illustrated the role of the Agency Trentino Sviluppo as a platform for connection between companies, research and territory. A real growth engine that accompanies companies along all stages of their development, providing incubators, accelerators and advanced infrastructure.
“In Rovereto within a few months a new reality will be born and we want to meet investors, companies and researchers, American universities who want to collaborate with us. In New York, Boston and in the coming days also in Houston in a dense network of meetings Trentino will tell its excellence in research and innovation”, said Polito.
The painting was completed with the intervention of Professor Francesca Demichelis, a pro-director of the University of Trento who presented the biomedical research system of the Trentino athenaeus. An interdisciplinary model, strongly oriented to the international impact, which integrates artificial intelligence, high performance calculation and precision medicine.
From liquid biopsies to metagenomics, from neurosciences to robotics, an ecosystem emerges not only to produce research, but to transform it into concrete applications through startups, patents and industrial collaborations. “What we offer is a slender environment, with an excellent quality of science, that is ahead of time for technology and that can be a great partner for research, development and innovation,” said Demichelis.
So the final intervention, when Massimiliano Clamer, chairman and founder of Imagine Biotechnology, closed the evening with a presentation that highlighted the technological excellence of a company based in Trento but with global ambitions. With an impeccable Englishman, Clamer illustrated an innovative approach to precision medicine based on RNA technologies from the next generation.
His work focuses on the study of translama and ribosomes, opening advanced perspectives in the discovery of biomarkers and therapeutic targets. A field that can have decisive applications in cancer research and many other complex diseases.
“Immagine Biotechnology wants to become the world’s pivot in precision medicine – explained Clamer –, what we need now is a boost in sales marketing, as well as strategic partnerships to attract talent.”.
Overall, the event returned the image of a cohesive system, in which institutions, universities and enterprises work together to generate value. A model that focuses not only on economic growth, but also on sustainability and quality of life, increasingly central elements in global investment choices. Trentino, in New York, was not limited to presenting itself. He showed what it means today to make innovation credible, competitive and integrated. And, above all, he has proven to have the cards in order to play a leading role on the international scene.
