Loans to growing households and enterprises, loans at 3,36%

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The growth of bank loans to families and businesses continues. In March 2026 the total amount of funding increased by 2.4% on an annual basis, acceleration compared to +2.2% recorded in February, confirming a positive dynamic started in the spring of last year. This is what emerges from the monthly report of the Italian banking association (Abi).

In particular, loans to households increased by 2.6%, while those to enterprises grew by 1.8%, respectively marking the fifteenth and the ninth consecutive month of increase. On the front of interest rates, the gradual reduction of credit cost continues.

In March, the average rate on new housing purchases fell to 3.36%, from 3.44% in the previous month and from 4.42% in December 2023. The average rate on new business financing operations fell to 3.26%. Banking is also increasing: the total, which includes deposits and bonds, grew by 2.6% on an annual basis, while deposits grew by 2.7%. Finally, the reduction of net deteriorated credits fell to €27.6 billion, equal to 1.32% of total funding.
