Inaugurated in Bologna the Italian Basketball Museum, Petrucci “Luogo di Emotions”

BOLOGNA (ITALPRESS) – The Mubit Museum of Italian Basketball inaugurated in Bologna. The new Museale space, wanted by the Municipality of Bologna and the Italian Pallacanestro Federation and managed by Fondazione Bologna Welcome, is located in the spaces of the iconic PalaDozza, the heart of the history of Italian basketball. The building, built in the 1950s last century, is 70 years old and celebrates this important milestone with a cultural project celebrating basketball as a national sporting, human and social heritage. Giovanni Petrucci, president of the Italian Federation Pallacanestro, has defined it a place full of “Emotions of the past and the present” and, he has emphasized: “Here today we talk about champions that so many might have forgotten, but when you see Achille Canna, 99 years old, who has made history and is still so proud of what he did and what he gave not only to basketball, but to the history of Italian sports, then you realize what was done and what we are doing. They made the story, we try to collect it and tell it. This is a place that will thrill you.”.

The mayor of Bologna, Matteo Lepore, retraced the history of the project explaining how the realization of the Museum began formally in 2019 through a call promoted by the Municipality and Fondazione Bologna Welcome: the goal was to give a house to Italian basketball, a place conceived as a space able to tell the story of basketball stimulating the participation of the visitor. Twenty-two in all project proposals presented at the competition: the international jury, composed of representatives of the world of sport, culture and journalism, has selected the three finalists including the winning proposal. The Mubit spaces are distributed on a total surface of almost 400 square meters. The exhibition is characterized by an innovative narrative choice that transforms the walls into dynamic surfaces that can animate through projections and visual content: the goal is to involve the visitor in the great actions of basketball history. The experience of the field comes to life through a sound system that reproduces the highlights of historical matches, between Arena and journalistic tale.

The museum, which opens its doors with the exhibition “Italbasket, more than 100 years of an infinite blue”, also incorporates the full support of Maurizio Gherardini, president of the Lega Basket, who, on the occasion of the inauguration, said: “I think this is an important moment for our basketball, I am really convinced that this sport is also made of so many emotions generated by those who have been protagonist over the years. It is important to create a recognized and recognizable tradition to pay tribute to all the characters that are present here today and have done so much. As League we will do everything possible to contribute to the life of this space through initiatives that can support activities and projects.”.
