Israel hits three Unifil bases, Crosetto to Gallant “Unacceptable”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Israeli forces struck three Unifil forces bases in southern Lebanon, injuring two people. There were no injuries among the Italian forces present. An Israeli tank fired at an observation tower at the Naqura base. The tower was hit and the two U.N. servicemen plummeted to the ground. Their condition is not serious, local medical sources report. Israel also appears to have hit Italian outposts. Some cameras were destroyed by shots from small arms. “Already in the early hours of this morning I contacted the Israeli Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, to protest with him and firmly remind him that what is happening near the Italian Unifil bases in South Lebanon and, in general, toward the Unifil contingent starting with the shots fired against the Unifil headquarters is, for me and for the Italian government, unacceptable. Although I have received assurances on the utmost attention to the safety of military personnel, I reiterated that any possible mistake that could put soldiers, Italian and Unifil soldiers, at risk must be averted,” said Defense Minister Guido Crosetto. “The safety of the Italian military personnel deployed in Lebanon remains a top priority for Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, whom I keep constantly informed and who is following the development of the situation with great attention, for me and for the entire Italian government, so that the Italian peacekeepers continue their work of mediation and support for peace and stability in Lebanon and the entire region,” Crosetto added.(ITALPRESS).-Photo: Ipa Agency-
