ROMA (ITALPRESS) – It has been the prestigious Salone d’Onore del Coni to host this year the historical initiative of Opes that since 2015 gives the City of Rome Award to those personalities or realities of sport, institutions, associations and culture that they have known and know how to distinguish themselves and determine profit for the categories of belonging. A way to identify and commend the merit of those who daily strive to enrich society through their own actions, their ideas.
The award, designed by the artist Leandro Lottici, has been delivered in the past years to personalities of enormous thickness of the institutional, sports and associations such as Giorgia Meloni, Giovanni Malagò, Andrea Abodi, Luca Pancalli, Maria Teresa Bellucci, Francesco Totti, Maki Mandela, Marco Mezzaroma and Roberto Mancini. And if for the last edition Opes rewarded a part almost entirely to the female highlighting how, to quote the national president Juri Morico, “women” are “the backbone” of our society, in 2026, characterized by the Winter Games of Milan Cortina, the agency has intended to recognize the deep value of sports for a country like Italy.

The involvement of the whole community, the institutions present, the great participation of the executives of Opes, sports bodies and authorities. This is the strength of a manifestation that is offered to the community, which wants to make a contribution and seeks to fulfill the challenge of respecting the value of a sport inserted in the Constitution, a social and educational value of a psychophysical well-being. Sport is a powerful amplifier and a healthy bearer of values, capable of breaking down barriers, especially cultural.”.
Claudio Barbaro, president of Asi and undersecretary of the Ministry for Environment and Energy Security, was awarded this 12th edition. Luciano Buonfiglio, President Coni; Marco Giunio De Sanctis, President Cip; Mattia Faraoni, world champion kickboxing; Ivo Ferriani, Italian member of Cio and president of the International Federation of bobs and skeletons; Fr Franco Finocchio, chaplain of the Italian delegation Milan-Cortina 2026; Cristian Ledesma, former footballer and current coach of Lazio Under 17; l’Ostiamare; Claudio Ranieri, senior advisor of Rome; Isabella Rauti, State Secretary to the Ministry of Defense; Run Rome The Marathon; Antonella Sberna, vice president of the European Parliament; and Daniele Terenzi, he is the founder and ambassador of inclusive dance.
