Memorial D’Aloja in Piediluco in the sign of sustainability, at the start 300 athletes

TERNI (ITALPRESS) – The “Memorial Paolo d’Aloja” is back, ready to cut the finish of the fortieth edition. On the weekend of 25 and 26 April, on the waters of Lake Piediluco, in the province of Terni, almost 300 athletes will be challenged in representation of 20 nations, confirming the importance of the race, which returns on the traditional Olympic distance of the two thousand meters after the sprint edition of 2025, played for the work of modernization of the National Center of Canoeing “Paolo d’Aloja – Rowing World Center”. This will be the first edition of the Italian Canoeing Federation for Rossano Galtarossa: “After many years crossing the lake of Piediluco from athlete, I find myself in this new capacity acquired on 21 March. The idea is to give continuity to what we had begun to land with Davide Tizzano last year. We are at the fortieth edition, it is an important moment that we intend to honour with great enthusiasm.”.

Italy will be at the start with 107 athletes, including the four male couple, world champion 2025 and vice-campione olimpico 2024, formed by Luca Rambaldi, Andrea Panizza, Giacomo Gentili and Luca Chiumento, and the blue Alice Codato and Laura Meriano, European vice-campionesse in 2 without. “The goal is clearly to confirm itself as the best crew within the Italian team – explains Luca Chiumento – and place himself among the first places in this international race, which sees very competitive participants.”.

To the first classified nation will go the Fondazione Carit Trophy, to the second the Suzuki Trophy, to the third the Common Trophy of Terni. The Umbria Region will award the winning nation of the double PR3 II mix, while a new recognition of the Carit Foundation will go to the best team of the double PR3 II male.

The Memorial Paolo d’Aloja is not only a sporting event, “but it is also an opportunity to reflect on sustainability – continues Galtarossa –. Ours is a sport that takes place in the open air, so the environment is our world and we must respect it to the maximum. At the same time we consider the canoeing also a form of inclusion. We are collaborating a lot with Fisdir: we will see in water crews composed of athletes with intellectual and cognitive disabilities, confirming an increasingly close relationship with this federation to make the canoeing increasingly inclusive.”.

Also this year the Memorial Paolo d’Aloja will be International Green Regatta: “This aspect is very important to us – Chiumento explains. We want to make it clear that sustainability is not an abstract concept, but it is made of gestures, even small, within reach of all and useful to improve our world”.

After the first steps taken in 2025 towards a more responsible organizational model, through the so-called zero plan, the sustainability plan of the “Memorial Paolo d’Aloja” is updated and deepened. Also the Sustainability Guide, the document created last year and distributed to all participants to promote the adoption of more responsible behaviors, will be updated and integrated with new practical advice.
