Arca SGR wins Barcolana 56, third the “Yellow Flames-Nice”

TRIESTE (ITALPRESS) – Arca SGR won the Barcolana 56 presented by Generali crossing the finish line in 1 hour, 28 minutes and 14 seconds. Second place for Prosecco Doc Shockwave 3 with 1 hour, 30 minutes and 27 seconds and third place for Fiamme Gialle Nice with 1 hour, 37 minutes and 55 seconds. Great success for the Guardia di Finanza, which with its Gruppo Sportivo Fiamme Gialle came third out of more than 1,700 boats that took part in the 56th edition of the Barcolana in Trieste, the last of the five sporting events planned for the celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Corps. The race opened with an evocative performance by the Guardia di Finanza Band in Piazza Unità d’Italia. Athletes competed in the “Fiamme Gialle-Nice” boat and took part in the week’s many activities, with many guests present both on land and at sea. The crew consists of financial sailors with significant experience in Olympic and offshore sailing disciplines, demonstrating the solid tradition of the Guardia di Finanza in this sport.This is a 78-foot (24-meter) yacht built in 1995 by the Australian shipyard MC Conaghy Boats, one of the first to use aerospace-derived pre-impregnated carbon in shipbuilding. It established itself as a durable and sophisticated racing sailing yacht that has participated in the world’s most important off-shore Maxi circuits, achieving numerous victories in prestigious international competitions. The boat from the Italian shipyard IceYachts of Cremona bears the effigy with the winged Griffin symbol of the Guardia di Finanza, with the logo of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Corps and the shield of the Gruppo Sportivi Fiamme Gialle (Yellow Flames Sports Groups).Among the authorities in attendance: Army Corps General Carmine Lopez, Interregional Commander of Northeastern Italy of the Guardia di Finanza; Division General Mariano La Malfa, Chairman of the Committee for the 250th Anniversary of the Founding of the Corps; and Brigadier General Antonio Appella, Commander of the Guardia di Finanza’s “Fiamme Gialle” Sports Center; Brig. Gen. Fabrizio Nieddu, Regional Commander of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Guardia di Finanza; Brig. Gen. Joselito Minuto, head of the Guardia di Finanza’s Aeronaval Operations Command, a Department present with the multi-role patrol vessel Monte Cimone.The Naval Service of the Guardia di Finanza was, in fact, entrusted with the task of monitoring and ensuring safety at sea during the event. At the event it was also possible to visit the historic training ship Giorgio Cini.
