WASHINGTON (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – Donald Trump has made it clear that he will hardly accept the last Iranian proposal to end the war, after Tehran has proposed a plan that previews the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, but recalling the issues related to the nuclear program to subsequent negotiations. The CNN explains that the President of the United States expressed his view during a meeting with senior national security officials, in which the Iranian situation was discussed. One of the sources emphasized that Trump “difficultly will accept the plan transmitted to the United States in recent days.”.
“This is delicate diplomatic discussions and the United States will not negotiate through the press – said White House spokesman Olivia Wales at CNN –. As the President said, the United States has the knife on the side of the handle and will reach an agreement only if this will put the American people first, preventing Iran from equipping itself with nuclear weapons.”.
CONVOCATA RIUNIONE D’EMERGENZA A JEDDAH DEI PAESI DEL GOLFO
A special advisory meeting of the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (CCG) was convened today in Jeddah. The correspondent of Al Arabiya reported that the emergency summit takes place in the Saudi city overlooking the Red Sea. At the moment no official details of the meeting agenda or the full list of participants have yet been published.
Diplomatic sources however indicate that the Gulf leaders are discussing the latest regional developments, particularly the situation in Iran, the Gulf tensions and efforts to stabilize maritime safety in the Hormuz Strait. The convocation of an extraordinary advisory meeting in Jeddah reflects the growing concern of the Gulf countries for the repercussions of the clashes between Iran, Israel and the United States on the stability of the region.
ARABIA SAUDITA, SICUREZZA HORMUZ RESPONSABILITÀ COLLETTIVA
Saudi Arabia reiterated that the safety of navigation in the Hormuz Strait represents an international collective priority, stressing the need to protect vital routes for the transport of energy, food and medicines. In an intervention before the UN Security Council this morning, the Saudi ambassador to the United Nations, Abdulaziz al-Wasel, declared that the world is witnessing an “unparalleled conflict” around the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic artery not only for the Gulf countries but for the entire global economy. “Any threat to freedom of navigation in the Hormuz Strait directly affects the stability of energy markets, world supply chains and international economic security,” said al-Wasel.
The Saudi diplomat renewed his appeal to the Security Council to explicitly condemn Iranian attacks by Saudi Arabia from the beginning of the crisis to the ceasefire agreement. He also asked to reiterate the respect for the sovereignty of States, the prohibition of the use of force or threat of recourse, and the principle of good neighbour. Al-Wasel expressed regret at the lack of a Security Council resolution on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that every threat to freedom of navigation is a danger to international peace and security.
The Saudi delegation renewed the firm condemnation of any Iranian action or threat aimed at hindering international navigation through the Strait of Hormuz or jeopardizing maritime safety in the Bab el-Mandeb, demanding that the passage remain open and secure in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
ARAGHCHI APPREZZA IL RUOLO DI MOSCA SU CRISI GOLFO
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed appreciation for Russia’s support for diplomatic efforts to end the war between Iran, Israel and the United States. After yesterday’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, Araghchi welcomed the return of Moscow to diplomatic initiatives to reach a lasting ceasefire. In a post published today on his X account, the head of Iranian diplomacy underlined the solidity of bilateral relations and said that the last events showed the depth of strategic partnership between Tehran and Moscow. However, the presence of an “unexpected guest” at the summit was aroused in particular attention among analysts and observers: according to Russian and Iranian sources, General Igor Kostyukov, head of Russian military intelligence (GRU).
The Iranian analyst Hamid Reza Azizizi, a fellow at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin, hypothesized the Arabiya newspaper that the meeting was not limited to the discussion of the possible agreement to end hostilities or the nuclear dossier, but could also include an exchange of sensitive information. In particular, there would be talk of movements and plans of the American forces in the region, as well as the possibility of a new escalation of the conflict. In the past few hours, the Russian Security Council issued a communiqué on which it warned about the risk that the United States and Israel could take advantage of the current truce to reorganize and prepare for a new phase of hostility against Iran.
