Last week, Cagliari’s Golfo degli Angeli held the 38th America’s Cup’s first preliminary race, marking the start of the “Road to Naples 2027”. This historic event for Italy transformed the Sardinian capital into the international sailing center, kicking off the countdown to the final, which will be held in Naples from July 10 to 18, 2027. Luna Rossa quickly sent a strong signal to all of its opponents. The Italian boat emerged victorious in the final match race, where it defeated Team New Zealand and dominated the final day. The crew performed admirably, with the exception of a short scare in the fourth stretch of the course owing to an error.
The Luna Rossa Women & Youth team also performed admirably, placing first in the fleet standings with three wins out of six races, establishing itself as the team to beat. The next event has already been scheduled: the second preliminary races will take place in Naples from September 24 to 27. The real Cup will be held in July 2027 in Naples.
