BRUSSELS (BELGIO) (ITALPRESS) – The European Research Council (CER) announced the winners of the last start-up grant competition, which awarded 705 million to 421 researchers at the start of the career in Europe. Grants will support young scientists during a crucial phase of their career, helping them pursue ambitious ideas and build their own work teams.
The results highlight Europe’s growing attraction for world-class research talents: 21 successful researchers currently established outside Europe will move to the EU and to the countries associated with Horizon Europa (increasing compared to 11 last year) to implement their projects.

This year’s competition collected a record number of 4,807 proposals, an increase of 22% compared to 3,928 last year. Due to strong competition, only 8.8% of the proposals could be financed. 169 researchers based in the United States this year compared to 116 of the previous call
. Selected projects cover a wide range of research sectors, from life sciences and engineering to social and human sciences. The new beneficiaries will be hosted by universities and research centres of 25 EU Member States and associated countries, particularly Germany (89 grants), France (38), Switzerland (36) and the Netherlands (33).
The winners include 84 Germans, 50 Italians, 30 French and 24 Spanish, as well as researchers from 48 other nationalities. Grants should create more than 3,000 jobs in the work teams of new beneficiaries.
