ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Approximately 65,000 people, including 22,100 children, were affected by floods in the districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Tanahun, Nepal. The Unnicef refers to it in a note.
Among the approximately 22,100 children affected, it is estimated that about 2,600 children under the age of five need treatment for severe malnutrition. About 10,500 pregnant and nursing women need nutritional support, while 28,317 teenagers need iron and folic acid supplements
The essential infrastructure has been severely affected, including 6 health centres and at least 19 schools have been destroyed or damaged, compromising the access of children to health care, safe water, education and protection services.
Many families are displaced, most are housed by other families, while others still have found shelter in reception centers managed by the government.
UNICEF is providing support in the fields of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), health, nutrition, child protection, social protection, education and risk communication, while strengthening local and national systems and capacities to ensure continuity of services, support recovery and strengthen resilience in the face of future emergencies.
UNICEF also provided essential aid to around 19,000 people in Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts. Among these are sanitary kits, buckets, soap, disinfectant, folding cans, water purification products and risk communication material.
