TRAPANI (ITALPRESS) – Tragedy this morning at the 68th Cronoscalata Monte Erice, where an accident during the competition caused the death of two people and the wounding of another. The race was immediately suspended. The incident occurred along the path of the chronoscalata, in the area of the station number 9. According to the first information, a car engaged in the race would exit the track, overwhelming some people in the area. On the site of the incident, rescuers, law enforcement and staff of the organization intervened. The investigations are underway to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the event.
The competition, one of the most important appointments of Sicilian automobile, was stopped after the accident. The 68th Cronoscalata Monte Erice, organized by the Automobile Club Trapani, is played on the traditional route that leads to Erice and is inserted in the calendar of the Italian Mountain Speed Championship. A day dedicated to sport has turned into a tragedy. Investigators are carrying out all necessary investigations to clarify the causes of the road exit of the car and the responsibilities of the car.
