Water purification, Suez focuses on densification

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – The European Union pays more and more attention to environmental protection, as evidenced by the new Directive 2024/3019, in which the limits to the discharge of nitrogen, phosphorus and carbon will be even more stringent. All EU Member States must take the measures provided for by Brussels by 31 July 2027. In this context, Suez, a French multinational company that is responsible for water and waste management. The company must face the challenge represented by increasingly stringent exhaust limits within existing infrastructures or however limited in space. “Suez responds through the intensification of the biological process, especially with the densification of biomass”, says Ottavia Burzi, Innovation and Design Engineer of Suez, interviewed by Italpress. “The densification consists of having two types of biomass within the system, the classic mud bow and the biological granule. In this way, we can combine the efficiency of removing pollutants, typical of mud bow with the superior decantation capabilities of the biological granule. The two proprietary solutions that Suez proposes for densification are the Cyclor Turbo and the inDENSE”. In detail, the Cyclor Turbo is a batch reactor, engineered to obtain the densification of biomass, while the inDENSE is a gravimetric separation system installed on the evacuation of the biological mud that consists precisely in keeping dense biomass and getting rid of the light. “For the Cyclor Turbo we have 8 references, of which 5 in France, and for the inDENSE 18 references, of which 12 in France. We hope to have the first Italian reference soon”, says Burzi, who adds: “The European Union asks us to do more in less space and so Suez sees in densification, therefore in intensification, in using what we already have, but to do more, an important axis. The future of purification is probably this, densification. This is why, although it is a few years that the technologies have been developed, we often offer them to be able to improve, in order to be able to apply them as much as possible, to have more experience return and to improve our design and management of this type of system”. -photo press office Suez – (ITALPRESS).
