GENOVA (ITALPRESS) – The Honorary Degree in Computer Engineering has been awarded today by the University of Genoa to Stefano Barrese, Head of Banca dei Territori di Intesa Sanpaolo. During the ceremony the institutional greetings of the Magnificent Rector Federico Delfino, of the Dean of the Polytechnic School Patrizia Perego and of the Director of the Department of Informatics, Bioengineering, Robotics and Systems Engineering (Dibris), Sergio Martinoia. The laudatio of the graduate was pronounced by Davide Anguita, Ordinary of Information Processing Systems. The Head of the Banca dei Territori di Intesa Sanpaolo held a lectio magistralis entitled: “The technology in bank and its relationship with people: yesterday, today and tomorrow” dedicated to the evolution of the relationship between technological innovation and human dimension in the banking sector.
During the intervention, Barrese stressed the centrality of human ingenuity in professional activity and in the government of artificial intelligence, as well as the importance of technology as a tool for the service of people. Some steps from the lectio. “Technology must not erode the human dimension, but strengthen it by creating shared prosperity for the benefit of communities and social, industrial and cultural territories”; “Digitalization has radically changed the way customers interact with the bank. But the value perceived by customers – the reason why they remain faithful to an institution rather than another – is still, to a large extent, determined by the quality of human relations. From trust. From the perception of being understood in their life plans that involve financial needs and not only served”; “How can I help you? This is the question that a good banker asks his client. This is the question that a good engineer poses when designing a system. This is the question that we must continue to ask, every day, while technology grows around us.”.
“I want to thank the Magnificent Rector, the teaching body and the entire academic community for this prestigious recognition that I welcome with emotion and with the commitment to continue to promote an ever closer dialogue between universities, business and innovation – said Barrese –. In an era marked by extraordinary technological transformations, I am convinced that the most important challenge is not only to develop increasingly evolved tools, but to put them at the service of all in a sustainable and inclusive manner. Artificial technology and intelligence must expand our capabilities, but the sense of individual responsibility remains essential, personal critical thinking and the ability to understand the needs that only the intervention of a qualified person can offer in a relationship.”.
