ROME (ITALPRESS) – A project aimed at education and information on the primary prevention of breast cancer, targeting companies sensitive to issues of environmental sustainability and the well-being of their employees: it is One Health for Breast Cancer, presented today at the Chamber. “In a sick planet, unfortunately, people are also getting sick: the incidence of cancer is growing a lot” due to “microplastics, environmental pollution and food,” factors that contribute “to raising the level of oncological diseases quite significantly,” said Rosanna D’Antona, president of Europa Donna Italia, which focuses on breast health. “We thought we would tour all the companies to tell them how important it is to be aware, to know, to be informed and to participate in building a planet closer to people’s health,” she explained. The project involves a board of experts to define a perimeter within which to guide people to adopt sustainable behavior and a set of useful recommendations for their own well-being and the prevention of invasive diseases such as breast cancer.Congresswoman Ylenja Lucaselli, co-chair of the parliamentary intergroup One Health, in her video message of greeting, recalled that “we are registering a lowering of the age of women who happen to discover they have breast cancer: we need to continue to insist on prevention, diagnosis and treatment, we need to keep up with new technologies, new discoveries, research and new medicines, and above all we need to make sure that women understand how crucial prognosis is, especially when it is early.” Also for Congresswoman Maria Elena Boschi, “the issue of prevention is central: on this, our country must do more,” expanding “the number of screenings and the age range.” Prevention “must be 360-degree, involving lifestyle, from nutrition to physical exercise and environmental protection. “Pollster Alessandra Ghisleri, partner of Euromedia Reseach, explained the results of some surveys. “People always say they are interested and informed” on the topic of prevention, “but when you get into the specifics, you realize that there are ‘holes’ in knowledge. “The head of the department of human health, animal health and ecosystem (One Health) and international relations of the Ministry of Health, Giovanni Leonardi, then stressed that “civil society and the third sector are key to carrying forward the message about lifestyles and prevention, which are the key aspects to fight the fight against cancer.” In conclusion, the co-chair of the parliamentary intergroup One Health, Luciano Ciocchetti, recalled that “Parliament is absolutely committed, in a transversal way, beyond political colorations, to strongly pursue this initiative,” and “we appreciated the fact that in the reorganization of the Ministry of Health the One Health department was defined, a very important step forward also from a cultural point of view.”
