Monza’s first win, Verona down 3-0

VERONA (ITALPRESS) – At the Bentegodi, Nesta’s Monza finally cures its victory sickness and folds Hellas Verona 3-0. In the match that closes the eighth day of Serie A, the mattatore of the evening is Dany Mota, author of a double: the third goal bears the signature of Bianco. Also valuable was the contribution of Turati, several times miraculous in foiling the opponents’ attempts. For the “biancorossi” it is, therefore, the first success in the championship. On the other side, Zanetti’s formation paid for a horror defensive phase. The best approach to the match has, therefore, Monza, which takes the lead already after nine minutes, thanks to Dany Mota’s third goal of the season. The Portuguese striker coordinated a right-footed volley and left no chance for an unguarded Montipò, scoring the 1-0 on an assist from Caprari. Nesta’s men showcased some good combinations, initially sending the hosts’ pressing to the wind. Verona, on the other hand, took a good 20 minutes to get into gear and, on 24′, Ghilardi’s header, on the development of a corner, forced Turati into a great intervention. At 44′ the Scaligeri again go close to equalizing with Tengstedt’s conclusion. Very intense and lively match also in the second half: in the early stages, the two goalkeepers take the limelight. First Turati neutralizes Lazovic’s insidious shot, then Montipò responds presently on Djuric’s close-range header. The guests relied mainly on the weapon of the counterattack, trying to punish an inaccurate and unbalanced Verona: on a reverse, at 61′, Kyriakopoulos hit the cross of the posts with a great shot from outside. The Scaligeri did not take it lying down and continued to attack with great vehemence. With extreme cynicism, however, Monza doubles at 74′, aided by Verona’s bad defensive phase: on Turati’s relaunch, Dany Mota collects Djuric’s spurt and scores all alone in front of Montipò. From that moment any light on Verona’s performance was definitely extinguished, hit five minutes later by Bianco’s 3-0, lucid in taking advantage of Faraoni’s sleep. Monza won it on the tactical level, showing greater cohesion and organization, unlike a wasteful Verona, yes, but also at times frayed in the wards. – Photo Image -(ITALPRESS).
