ROME (ITALPRESS) – “Something has cracked irreversibly.” This is how Giuseppe Conte responds to Bruno Vespa’s question whether the relationship with Beppe Grillo has ended permanently. The interview is in Vespa’s new book “Hitler and Mussolini – The fatal idyll that shocked the world (and Italy’s central role in the new Europe)” due out Oct. 30 from Mondadori – Rai Libri. “Humanly, I am very impressed by how he behaves,” the president of the 5-Star Movement tells Vespa. “Already in the past he has had venomous attitudes toward me, to which I gave no weight because the interests of the community prevailed over everything. To see him today so blatantly opposing a process of democratic participation that takes us back to Casaleggio’s original ideals has saddened me greatly. Because, contrary to what the newspapers write, the clash is not personalistic (Grillo vs. Conte), but sees Grillo fighting against his own community. “Beppe Grillo is responsible for a counter-communication that brings down the reasons for a contractual collaboration,” the former premier explained, announcing his decision not to renew the 300,000-euro compensation to the founder of the 5-Star Movement.”Grillo also claimed compensation as a guarantor in the last letters he wrote to me,” Conte says in Vespa’s book. “I have never accepted that he was paid for this function, which has an intrinsic moral value and is not compatible with any remuneration. After clarifying that a “compromise was reached by remunerating his well-known communication skills to strengthen the image of the movement,” the M5S president tells Vespa that “in the face of a constituent process that has involved the entire movement, Grillo is carrying out acts of sabotage compromising the goal of releasing new energies.”
