Clean Sweep for Italian Teams in European Cups Thursday

Roma, Lazio, and Fiorentina secure victories in their respective competitions

It was a perfect day for Italian clubs in the European Cups, with all teams emerging victorious. In the afternoon, Roma defeated Dynamo Kyiv at the Olimpico, thanks to a penalty scored by Dovbyk. This marks the second goal in three Europa League matches for the Ukrainian forward, but what stands out is his impact on the Giallorossi’s season: amidst the team’s struggles to find the net, Dovbyk has scored half of their total goals and all of their European goals. Essentially, if Dovbyk doesn’t score, it’s incredibly tough for Roma, which explains why Juric started him in a match where he made significant rotations.

Lazio also claimed an away victory in the Netherlands, where they took advantage of a numerical superiority following the early red card of the opposing goalkeeper in the 11th minute against Twente. The Biancocelesti wrapped up the match with two goals, one in each half, scored by Pedro and Isaksen.

Fiorentina performed well, too, defeating St. Gallen 4-2 on the road. The Viola struggled more than expected against the Swiss team, which was well-organized and aggressive for at least an hour. However, in the end, Fiorentina managed to pull away decisively.
