Balla “Morocco works for a Mediterranean partnership”

PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – The Mediterranean integration process is exhausted and needs to be rehabilitated to be able to respond to new challenges. This was pointed out by Youssef Balla, Morocco’s ambassador to Italy, during a inconro organized this weekend in Palermo by Forza Italia. Balla noted that the Mediterranean area is crossed by several fractures. “First of all, the fracture in human mobility. Instead of a wall of hope, we have a walled sea,” the ambassador said. But then also disparities in terms of development between the two sides of the Mediterranean. Balla added that in the face of this panorama, the importance of the Mattei Plan emerges, which, without having the ambition to replace the Mediterranean integration processes, is able to fill some of the gaps observed in the different Mediterranean integration processes. “Morocco joined this plan from the beginning because it coincides in many of these elements with Morocco’s strategic priorities in the broader Mediterranean area. Morocco, thanks to the Royal Vision, has consolidated its position and established itself as a bridge between Africa and Europe. Morocco,” he explained, “works for a Mediterranean partnership adapted to the realities of the region and its peoples. In this context, the Atlantic Royal Initiative and the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline project are two examples of Moroccan projects aimed at Africa and represent a real lever to promote sustainable development, economic growth and consolidation of political stability in the countries of the region. Morocco, thanks to its African leadership and Italy with its Mediterranean vocation, can together promote initiatives toward Africa in a spirit of egalitarian partnership that respects the sovereignty of African countries,” Balla concluded.
