ROME (ITALPRESS) – As of September 2024, after three months of growth, the number of employed people declines (-63 thousand) to 23 million 983 thousand; the decline involves permanent employees – down to 16 million 21 thousand – and term employees, amounting to 2 million 815 thousand; the self-employed remain stable at 5 million 147 thousand. Compared to September 2023, there are 301 thousand more employed people, a summary of the increase in permanent employees (+331 thousand) and the self-employed (+81 thousand) and the decline in term employees (-110 thousand). On a monthly basis, the employment rate falls to 62.1 percent, the inactivity rate rises to 33.7 percent, and the unemployment rate is stable at 6.1 percent. This can be seen from the report published by Istat. In September 2024, compared with the previous month, the employed and unemployed decrease, while the inactive increase. Employment declines (-0.3%, or -63 thousand) among men and women, among employees, 15-24 year olds and 35-49 year olds, is essentially stable for the self-employed and those aged 50 and over, while it increases among 25-34 year olds. The employment rate falls to 62.1 percent (-0.1 points).
The number of job seekers decreases (-0.9%, or -14 thousand) among men and those aged 35 or older, while it increases among women and those under 35. The unemployment rate is stable at 6.1 percent; the youth unemployment rate rises to 18.3 percent (+0.3 points). The number of inactive people rises (+0.4%, or +56 thousand) for men, women and all age groups, decreasing only among 25-34 year olds. The inactivity rate rises to 33.7 percent (+0.2 points). The comparison between the third and second quarters of 2024 shows an increase in the number of employed people by 0.4 percent (or +84 thousand). The growth in employment, observed in the quarterly comparison, is associated with a decrease in job seekers (-8.5%, or -147 thousand) and an increase in the inactive (+1.1%, or +138 thousand). In September 2024, the number of employed people exceeds that of September 2023 by 1.3 percent (+301 thousand). The increase involves men, women, and all age groups except for 35-49 year olds, for whom there is substantial stability. The employment rate in one year rises by 0.4 percentage points. Compared to September 2023, the number of people looking for work decreases (-21.4 percent, or -423 thousand) and the number of inactive people aged 15-64 increases (+2.8 percent, or +337 thousand).
