BARCELONA (SPAIN) (ITALPRESS) – The curtain closes, there is still the biggest question mark, but in Barcelona the answer will finally be given. Everything is set for the final act of the 2024 MotoGP season to be run this weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. After the flooding events that affected the surrounding areas of the city of Valencia, including also the area of the Circuit Ricardo Tormo that was supposed to host the last GP of the year, the World Championship will in fact stop at the Montmeló and the proceeds of the event, renamed Solidarity GP of Barcelona for the occasion, will be destined to help the flood victims. For the third time in a row, the fate of the MotoGP World Championship will be decided in the last round of the year, with the two Ducati riders Jorge Martìn and Francesco Bagnaia once again protagonists in the rainbow fight. The Spanish Pramac Racing rider arrives in Barcelona with a 24-point lead over Bagnaia, who came close to victory in the Sprint at Montmeló last May (falling on the last lap) and then triumphed in Sunday’s race. The Ducati Lenovo Team rider, who has 10 victories this year, will try to keep the game going until the very end. “I am happy with the decision to race the last Grand Prix of the season in Barcelona for Valencia,” is Bagnaia’s premise. “What happened is terrible and we really hope to be able to contribute substantially to help all the people affected with the proceeds of this event. There is talk of the fight for the World Championship, for the reigning world champion it will be very hard to defend the title, but the last word is not yet said. “As for us, we will face the weekend as always. We still have a chance and although it will be difficult we will try until the end. Come what may, it is an honor for me to have once again come to the last race of the season to play for the world title. I can’t wait to get out on the track,” Bagnaia’s words. For Enea Bastianini, who will race his last Grand Prix with Ducati on Sunday, it will also be an important weekend. In fact, the rider from Rimini is just one point behind Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP) in third place in the standings, so he will still have a chance to climb back onto the rainbow podium. “This weekend we are racing in Barcelona to try to raise as much aid as possible for the people affected by the flooding in Valencia. Returning to Montmeló after the GP held this spring will be an opportunity for me to redeem myself – explains Bastianini – In the past I have always been fast on this track, but in the last race the various long laps I received after contact with Alex Màrquez definitely compromised my performance. Now we are fourth in the standings just one point behind Marc Màrquez; we will give 100% to be able to get on the World Championship podium.” – Photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
