ROME (ITALPRESS) – “2024 has been a long election year and we are satisfied because we are seeing that an alternative to the right is there. In the regions where we voted we started 6 to 1 for them and now we are 4 to 3. Meloni, we are coming.”
Thus the secretary of the PD, Elly Schlein, in an interview with Corriere della Sera. According to the Dem leader, the success at the last regionals is to be written to two factors: ” unity and humility. The unity not only of the coalition, but also of the PD. these elements weighed heavily on the vote.” As for abstentionism, he observes that “it will be a long job: you don’t counter a structural trend that is European in a few months, but the Pd is absolutely determined to deal with this wound to democracy.” To those who object, however, that the alliance is creaking, between cross vetoes and targets, Schlein says that “the first issue we will tackle together is the maneuver on which the government continues to make mass distraction.” Among other united initiatives she points to “public health care, equal leave for both parents, on the ground of industrial policies, the oppositions all together have asked the government to give up the 4.6 billion cut to the automotive sector, the minimum wage and reconstruction to help businesses and farmers.” On the prospects for the duration of the government, the Pd secretary concludes, “We work so that it lasts as little as possible since they are doing badly. They have made three maneuvers without vision, without investment and this last one, in particular, is recessionary. The deck is short and we need to use resources well. This government, however, is taking the opposite path and using them badly. This is a dead-end maneuver for Italy. Therefore, we are working to get to elections before the deadline because, given the damage of these two years, we do not want to see more for the next three.”-
