We have an ambitious goal, which will culminate with the constituent assembly on Saturday and Sunday: to regenerate, shake us up, give new ideas to the Movement, rekindle enthusiasm and make everyone feel like a protagonist of the new path. No one has done this with courage and humility, as we are doing. It is clear to me that if a political trajectory emerges from the constituent that is opposite to the one pursued so far by my leadership, I would step aside. It’s called consistency.” This was stated by the leader of the 5-Star Movement, Giuseppe Conte, in an interview with the newspaper “La Repubblica.” “We hold on to the roots, from which the radicality of our battles descends. But in 2021, gathering hundreds of suggestions, I drafted and put to a vote a charter of principles and values approved by a very large majority by the community of members. It is a progressive manifesto,” he adds, “that marks a clear distance from this right-wing party that pursues the fragmentation of Italy, the muzzling of judges, and the demolition of constitutional balances with a clear autocratic drift.
For Conte, “if this progressive camp choice is challenged, the Movement will have to find another leader.” The indication leads to an alliance with the Democratic Party. “On this, my line has been very clear.
