PISA (ITALPRESS) – Change in the leadership of the Italian Rowing Federation. The elective assembly in Pisa awarded Davide Tizzano: class of 1968, the two-time Olympic champion will lead the FIC during the four-year period 2025-2028. Tizzano, gold medalist in the four of a pair in Seoul 1988 and in the two of a pair in Atlanta 1996, garnered 140 votes (52.04 percent), surpassing outgoing federal president Giuseppe Abbagnale, in office since 2012, who garnered 128 votes (47.58 percent). There was only one – 0.37 percent – blank ballot. “I believe that this Assembly, with 269 votes present out of the total of 271, was one of the most well attended assemblies ever in the history of the Italian Rowing Federation, and this is a sign of great democracy, vitality and participation,” Tizzano’s first words after his proclamation at the helm of the FIC. “Thank you to all the delegates and delegates who participated live, because it is never easy to commit physically. Thanks to outgoing president Abbagnale, I was happy to accompany him as vice president during his first term. I wanted to come back, and to do that I personally toured about 180 societies in 40 days, touching any kind of situation that affects our rowing societies.” “There is so much to be done,” Tizzano added, “now let’s catch our breath, but then let’s start working right away. I thank Giuseppe Abbagnale’s team for pulling out, I find that a very stylish sign. Last Friday I was in Piediluco, at the Rowing Center where my story began in 1982. Tomorrow I will go back there, to visit the facilities again, because I want to start from there. Then I will go to Rome to the Federation, and I am sure that I will find the professionalism that is needed to do a great job and make that change of gear that has been requested of me today.”
Also elected were the new federal board and the chairman of the board of auditors. Regarding the former, in company quota elected Rossano Galtarossa, Francesca Postiglione, Luana Giuseppina Porfido, Michelangelo Crispi, Massimiliano D’Ambrosi, Umberto Dentis and Fabrizio Quaglino; in athlete quota Simone Martini and Valentina Rodini; in technician quota Walter Bottega.
