Electric Range Rover prototypes face tests in hot climates

DUBAI (EMIRATES ARAB) (ITALPRESS) – One of the world’s most unforgiving climates is the testing ground for Range Rover Electric prototypes. As part of the grueling development of the first all-electric Range Rover, the UAE is engaged in a scorching desert test. The vehicle’s performance and efficiency are being put to the test to ensure that the temperature of the entire powertrain system is reliably controlled, ensuring its optimal longevity and range. Range Rover is subjecting its new, smarter thermal management system to rigorous testing in 50-degree temperatures and 90 percent humidity. From dynamic desert climbs to sun-streaked city routes, nothing is left unexplored in the quest for maximum cabin comfort and vehicle capability.Range Rover Electric delivers impressive efficiency, surpassing the thermal test performance recorded by any Range Rover in sand. Defying all limits, optimum thermal performance was consistently maintained throughout the severe and prolonged desert tests. “A hot climate is one of the most challenging for any battery electric vehicle, due to the need to cool the cabin and optimize, at the same time, the performance of the battery itself. The added challenge of driving in sand requires controlled torque at low speeds, so our specially developed traction control and thermal management systems work in harmony to ensure that power delivery is not affected. Our tests have shown that in this climate, repeatedly driving the equivalent of 100 meters uphill in fine sand, Range Rover Electric equals the performance of its ICE equivalents, in some cases even surpassing them, thanks to the introduction of these new features,” said Thomas Mùller, Executive Director and Product Engineering. Range Rover Electric benefits from more than 50 years of pioneering innovations to deliver composure and comfort on any terrain. Range Rover’s intelligent electric propulsion system and advanced Terrain Response create a seamless experience, transitioning seamlessly from the metropolis of Dubai to the desert, delivering confidence-inspiring capabilities.Well-balanced weight distribution and an advanced suspension system effortlessly maintain control and stability in sand, working with maximum composure. Uncompromising traction systems provide instant torque that enables rapid acceleration, responsiveness and a refined ride even when navigating different dune formations. Range Rover Electric’s new Intelligent Torque Management system distributes wheel slip management activity directly to each individual electric traction control unit, reducing the torque reaction time at each wheel from about 100 milliseconds to a minimum of 1 millisecond, and thus offering improved traction control when driving on fine sand.In the heart of the Al Badayer Desert in Sharjah, the “Big Red” stands tall among saffron-colored dunes. The natural dune formation of more than 91 meters is the largest hill in the Arabian Desert. All Range Rover vehicles completed the ascent five times without showing any reduction in performance, passing the test. Thus, preparations continue in preparation for the opening of reservations in 2025.
