US, Trump awaits inauguration amid new appointments and timely decisions

WASHINGTON (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – Ahead of the inauguration ceremony on Jan. 20, the United States is experiencing a transition phase these days. President-elect Donald Trump has announced a series of decisions to be taken including imports from China, Mexico and Canada and measures regarding the deportation of “illegal” migrants.
Meanwhile, outgoing President Joe Biden’s latest decisions raise numerous questions between late interventions in favor of Ukraine, the green light for the use of U.S. missiles on Russian territory, and the announcement of a pardon for his son Hunter. On the latter, Trump made a tongue-in-cheek comment on his Truth social, wondering if the pardon could also be extended to “the hostages of January 6, 2021, imprisoned for years,” for what would be “an abuse and miscarriage of justice.” Just by virtue of the Capitol Hill assault Trump had promised on the campaign trail that he would pardon his supporters should he return to the White House.
Ahead of the inauguration Trump appointed two of his in-laws as ambassador to Paris and Middle East adviser, respectively. Specifically, they are real estate entrepreneur Charles Kushner, father of Jared, husband of Ivanka, Trump’s eldest daughter, who will go on to serve as ambassador to France, despite a conviction for tax evasion (Trump granted him a pardon in 2020), and Lebanese businessman Massad Boulos, father of Michael, husband of Tiffany, his youngest daughter, who will become the president’s adviser for the Middle Oeast and the Arab World. During the tycoon’s campaign, Boulos served as Trump’s emissary to the Arab-American community, which had repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the Biden-Harris administration over the failure to bring about a ceasefire in Gaza. The Tycoon needs Senate approval for these appointments, and his hope is that the Senate will step aside so as to give the new administration time to settle in. A few weeks ago the nomination of former Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz failed. The latter stepped aside, even stating that he did not want to be an “embarrassment” to the president. A phrase related specifically to the investigation conducted by the House Ethics Committee into inappropriate sexual behavior and drug use. At that point Trump chose his own lawyer, Pam Bondi, at Justice, having already placed in key roles in the federal judiciary his other lawyers who have defended him in the various proceedings against him in recent months. Trump also singled out Kash Patel to lead the FBI, calling him “a brilliant lawyer, an investigator, a champion of America First who has spent his entire career exposing corruption, defending justice and protecting Americans.”
