Atalanta folds Roma at the Stadio Olimpico and stays in Napoli’s slipstream

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Atalanta beats Roma 2-0 and moves to second place on their own, one point behind leaders Napoli. Decisive goals by De Roon and former Zaniolo in an Olimpico full of affection and banners for Claudio Ranieri (at his first home in this new Giallorossi experience) and Edoardo Bove, the former struck down by illness yesterday during Fiorentina-Inter. Roma did not disfigure, indeed it seemed to give continuity from the good test in London with Tottenham, but it remains dry and in 15th place. The first chance of the match comes from Leandro Paredes, who at 4′ finds space for a shot from outside the box and tries it, but warms Carnesecchi’s gloves. He is imitated on 13′ by Kone, who advances with the ball at the foot and lets off a sharp right-footer that grazes the post with the Bergamo goalkeeper motionless. Atalanta is dangerous in 30′: Ederson crosses into the box, where De Ketelaere wins the aerial duel with Angelino without giving force to the ball: Svilar blocks. Gasperini (disqualified, on the bench is Gritti) is the first to make changes: out go Retegui and Ruggeri, in come Samardzic and Cuadrado. Ranieri responds with the entry of Shomurodov, who takes Dovbyk’s place, while shortly afterwards in the Bergamasque home it’s time for a booed Zaniolo and Brescianini (with Lookman and De Ketelaere recalled to the bench). It was an episode that unlocked the result: at 69′ De Roon kicked from distance, but what was decisive was a back deflection by Celik that completely displaced Svilar. It’s raining cats and dogs at Roma, which loses both Hummels and Cristante to injury within minutes. Ranieri (who shortly before had brought in Saelemaekers) inserted El Shaarawy and switched to a 4-man defense, then increased the offensive weight with Soulè. It is Mancini at 76′ who has the 1-1 ball, but the defender harpoons a cross and under the goal fails to put it back into the net. And it was a deflection by the number 23 in the 89th minute that corrected Zaniolo’s header into the net, signing the former’s goal on the development of a corner. The latest mockery for a Roma side that now finds itself looking over its shoulder as La Dea continues to dream big.- photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
