European Cross, Nadia Battocletti wins gold in Turkey

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Another Italian triumph at the European Championships in Antalya, Turkey. Nadia Battocletti is the first Italian to win overall gold at the European Cross Championships, after four youth golds. First European in 30 editions who manages to triumph in all categories (U20, U23, overall). Italy women’s team gold medalist as well for the first time in history.Staying in front is the imperative for Nadia, to avoid the pitfalls that the course holds, especially the obstacle with the three close logs and the more undulating sections. Frenchwoman Manon Trapp’s break that characterized the first part of the challenge came to an end shortly after halfway through the race, taken up by the Italian, who travels together with Turkey’s Can and Romania’s Meringor. When there are a couple of kilometers left, a group of five athletes forms, which also includes Germany’s Klosterhalfen and Belgium’s Van Lent. On the bell of the last lap, the Olympic silver medalist begins to get serious, a move that stretches the group and then skims it, until Klosterhalfen and Can bend the resistance.
