ROME (ITALPRESS) – Flavio D’Ambrosi will again lead the Italian Boxing Federation in the next four-year Olympic period. In the elective assembly that met at the Hilton hotel in Fiumicino, the FPI’s number 1 received 444 votes (50.06 percent of the preferences expressed), two more than challenger Fabrizio Baldantoni, 38, former deputy vice president of the Federation, while Giuseppe Macchiarola formally withdrew his candidacy after his speech. The proceedings were ushered in by the harsh tones of the two candidates, but immediately after the election D’Ambrosi made an appeal for unity. “This result loads me with responsibility,” his words, “but it must make us reflect because we cannot be divided. We must reflect on how to unite this movement. We cannot face the challenges of the future if the Italian boxing movement is divided. We have to think about working for the good of the movement and for the good of the people who toil in the gym. This December 14 will have to be archived and we will have to start again united,” added D’Ambrosi, who in the illustrative report had recalled four critical issues encountered at the beginning of the previous quadrennium, such as the Covid pandemic, but also the “organizational set-up of the blue teams not adequate for competitiveness,” as well as the professional system “left in disarray” and the “lack of adequate institutional relations.” D’Ambrosi then presented some data such as the +33% of registered members (79,111 in 2024) and +33.7% of competitive players. Growing numbers also for national activity with +10.5% of meetings and +31% of meetings in 2021-2024. There was also room for another call for generational change in the blue teams. “Enough with the state amateurism that has brought the usual ones to the national team for so many years, blocked the turnover of the athlete pool and prevented young people from growing.”- photo Spf/Italpress -(ITALPRESS).
