MILAN (ITALPRESS) – The white smoke has arrived: the Serie A League has chosen its new president. Picking up the baton from Lorenzo Casini will be Ezio Maria Simonelli, thanks to 14 votes received out of 20 available (six blank ballots). Born in Macerata, Italy, on Feb. 12, 1958, with a degree in economics and commerce from the University of Perugia in 1980, Simonelli is a chartered accountant registered with the Milan Chamber of Commerce, a freelance journalist, auditor and managing partner of Simonelli Associati, a tax law firm based in Milan. He is a lecturer as well as a member of the scientific committee of the Master of Tax Law and Practice of “Il Sole 24 Ore.” The author of numerous articles and publications, he has been editing the “tax news” column of the Journal of Certified Public Accountants since 2004. Simonelli is also chairman of the Board of Statutory Auditors of Sisal Group and Mediaset Italia, standing auditor of Recordati and F2i Sgr and, since April 2018, standing auditor also of Arnoldo Mondadori Editore. He was Board Member of Banca Nazionale dell’Agricoltura, Interbanca and Depobank-Banca Depositaria Italiana Spa, Supervisory Board Member of Banca Popolare di Milano Scarl. He was a partner and later Of Counsel at the tax firm of Ernst & Young and is also honorary consul of Canada in Italy. Simonelli is no stranger to the world of soccer: a former accountant for Silvio Berlusconi, he twice ran for the leadership of the B League (where he served as chairman of the Board of Auditors), in 2013 and 2021, but came out defeated (first Maurizio Beretta and then Mauro Balata were elected). In 2017 he was also regent precisely of the A League – being here also president of the Board of Auditors – after Maurizio Beretta’s farewell and until the commissioning of the then Figc president Carlo Tavecchio.Among the first to congratulate the current number one of the Federcalcio Gabriele Gravina: “Best wishes for a good job to Ezio Simonelli, a serious and passionate person whom I esteem highly. His election represents an unquestionable sign of newfound harmony and serenity within the A League, the current proactive climate will certainly favor a new season of collaboration with the Figc and all the federal components, with the aim of developing the full potential of Italian soccer”.- photo Image – (ITALPRESS).
