Before what happened, we were in contact with some of these groups, but there is no direct contact with the current government.” Yesterday, Iranian leader Ali Khamenei spoke about the recent developments in Syria that led to the fall of the regime of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Iran’s main ally in the region, referring to the factions that brought him down, saying, “A group of rebels, with the help and planning of foreign governments, took advantage of Syria’s internal weaknesses and brought the country into chaos.”
