This new operating unit represents our ongoing commitment to the fight against cancer, offering state-of-the-art technologies and a highly specialized team.” This was said by the general director of the Asp of Messina, Giuseppe Cuccì, during the inauguration of the new Simple Medical Oncology Operating Unit at the Presidio Ospedaliero “Cutroni Zodda” in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto. “With the opening of the oncology department,” Cuccì continued, “we want to ensure personalized and multidisciplinary care, supporting patients and their families at every stage of the treatment pathway. Investing in the health of our citizens is our priority; the new oncology department is a concrete example of our dedication to providing high-quality care. We are confident that, thanks to this new department, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of many patients, offering them not only effective treatments, but also support and hope.” This important facility, already established before the pandemic, has recently undergone a radical reprogramming thanks to the initiative of the General Director of the Asp of Messina. The new Unit will be able to accommodate 8 stations dedicated to oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment, using comfortable chairs for the sessions.”We are pleased,” Cuccì added, “that in the meantime we have introduced day hospital admission modalities at our hospital in Barcelona, a service designed to offer patients effective and timely treatment, allowing them to return home the same day, thus ensuring more comfortable and less invasive care. “This step, it was stressed during the ceremony, represents a significant step forward in expanding local health care offerings, reducing inconvenience for oncology patients, who until now have been forced to travel to the hospital in Taormina for chemotherapy sessions. Starting in January 2025, the Unit will ensure the administration of intravenous chemotherapy, initially limited to short-term treatments, with a subsequent expansion of the offering to include the full range of treatments available at the Complex Operative Unit of Oncology at the San Vincenzo Hospital in Taormina.- photo Asp Messina press office -(ITALPRESS)
