ROME (ITALPRESS) – “I have given a mandate to the Secretary General of the Farnesina to summon the Iranian Ambassador to Rome.” This was announced on X by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
“The government, as from the first day of Cecilia Sala’s arrest, is working tirelessly to bring her home and we demand that all her rights be respected. Until her release, Cecilia and her parents will never be left alone,” Tajani writes again on X.
The meeting at the Farnesina between Foreign Ministry Secretary General Riccardo Guariglia and Iranian Ambassador to Rome Mohammad Reza Sabouri lasted about an hour.
“On the Italian side,” stressed a note from the Farnesina, “the immediate release of the compatriot, who arrived in Iran on a regular journalistic visa, was first and foremost requested. Guariglia also reiterated “the request to ensure dignified conditions of detention, with respect for human rights, to guarantee full consular assistance to the compatriot, allowing the Italian Embassy in Tehran to visit her and to provide her with the comfort items that she has been denied so far.”
