Deficit/GDP declines to -2.3 percent in 3rd quarter

ROME (ITALPRESS) – In the third quarter of 2024, general government net borrowing as a percentage of GDP was -2.3% (-6.3% in the same quarter of 2023). This was reported by Istat.The PA primary balance (borrowing net of interest expense) was positive, accounting for 1.7 percent of GDP (-2.8 percent in the third quarter of 2023).The current balance was also positive, accounting for 1.9 percent of GDP (1.6 percent in the third quarter of 2023).The tax burden was 40.5 percent, up 0.8 percentage points from the same period a year earlier.Disposable income of consumer households grew 0.6 percent from the previous quarter, while consumption grew 1.6 percent. The propensity to save of consumer households was 9.2 percent, down 0.8 percentage points from the previous quarter.Against a 0.2 percent increase in the implicit consumption deflator, household purchasing power increased from the previous quarter by 0.4 percent.The profit share of non-financial corporations, at 42.4 percent, decreased by 0.3 percentage points from the previous quarter.
